Yes… I reused the previous header, its just still applicable. To stem the tide of questions, here’s what you need to know about Windwalker in 9.0.5. I’ll update this page as things get changed, if they do.
Changes
-
Xuen’s Battlegear – Rising Sun Kick critical strike chance increased by 50% (was 30%) and Fists of Fury cooldown reduced by 5 seconds (was 2.5 seconds).
-
Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger is now vulnerable to Hibernate, Polymorph and Fear crowd-control effects.
-
Touch of Death is now affected by Mastery: Combo Strikes.
-
Fixed an issue that caused Storm, Earth, and Fire’s cast to sometimes break nearby enemies’ Stealth.
-
Fixed an issue that caused Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger to be able to target enemies in Stealth.
-
Fixed an issue that caused Tiger Palm to grant an additional stack of Mark of the Crane when Storm, Earth, and Fire is active.
-
Fixed an issue that allowed Mark of the Crane to be maintained permanently at maximum stacks while fighting a single target.
-
Fixed an issue that could prevent Storm, Earth, and Fire spirits from using Fists of Fury, Rising Sun Kick, and Whirling Dragon Punch.
-
Fixed an issue that allowed Storm, Earth, and Fire spirits to continue channeling Fists of Fury after the Monk’s Fists of Fury channel ended.
-
Fixed an issue that could cause Spinning Crane Kick‘s damage to not be properly increased by Mark of the Crane if targets die with the Monk’s mark active.
What They Mean
Damage Loss
There will be damage loss. I talked about it in my last article, and its likely not to be as bad as I mathed it to be, but there will still be damage loss.
Mark of the Crane
You won’t be able to maintain your stacks of Mark of the Crane between packs, you’ll have to rebuild them at the start of pulls.
Covenants
We’re not changing Covenants. Kyrian will still be the recommended go-to Covenant. There are tons of memes and ideas out there about other ideas, but they’ll take weeks to sort through and test, so Kyrian is still the best.
Legendaries
We’re not changing Legendary. Invoker’s Delight will still be the best for nearly all situations. Xuen’s Battlegear moves up to 2nd place for all content.
ST vs AOE
With the fact that you will have more Mark of the Crane stacks than you have targets becoming a lot more rare, this shifts when you switch to the AOE priority. With this change it looks like this:
- Drop Blackout Kick from your priority at at least 2 targets and at least 2 stacks.
- Drop Rising Sun Kick from your priority at at least 3 targets and at least 1 stack.
- If you’re not using Calculated Strikes then add 1 target to the above recommendations.
Fists of Fury Clipping
There’s almost no change to how we handle Weapons of Order and Fists of Fury. From now on, whenever you are inside Weapons of Order (regardless of Storm, Earth, and Fire) you’ll change what you do based on how much haste that you have.
- If you have 50% haste or higher then you’ll full channel Fists of Fury when inside Weapons of Order using a sequence like this:
- Rising Sun Kick > Fists of Fury (Full Channel) > Blackout Kick > Rising Sun Kick
- If you have less than 50% haste then you only cast Fists of Fury to enable Whirling Dragon Punch clipping it with the next GCD; using a sequence like this:
- Rising Sun Kick > Fists of Fury (Clipped) > Blackout Kick > Expel Harm > Blackout Kick > Rising Sun Kick> Blackout Kick > Whirling Dragon Punch > Blackout Kick > Rising Sun Kick
- If there are at least 3 targets then you only cast Fists of Fury to enable Whirling Dragon Punch clipping it with the next GCD and focus on getting out as many Spinning Crane Kick as you can, just like you do now.
Current Bugs
As you can expect there are some bugs still around:
- FIXED –
Storm, Earth, and Fire does nothing unless you fixate them. This is fine for single targets or when you can tag targets yourself, but cuts down on a BIG benefit for them. - FIXED –
Mark of the Crane does not increase the damage of Spinning Crane Kick at all. It literally has no point in its existence right now. However, Calculated Strikes still does, which strangely enough keeps the above recommendations correct, it just lessens the strength. - FIXED –
You CAN actually maintain 6 stacks nearly indefinitely by stacking to 6 then getting summoned into the dungeon, raid, whatever. The load screen “saves” them and allows you to maintain 6 stacks nearly automatically even in single target. Its a bit more complicated than that, but if you’re degenerate enough to try and use this then you’re degenerate enough to figure out its limitations.
These current bugs are quite large, but also noticeable and likely to be fixed. Woe be to us NA Beta Testers.

A few paragraphs above, you state that stack number is still relevant to when to swap to multitarget priority.
Is this for futureproofing, when this get’s fixed? or what does this mean?
Its for the assumption it gets fixed, and Calculated Strikes still works, I’ll add a note about it.
Am I thinking wrong or in the section for less than 50% Haster on WoO, you would have to use a Chi generator between the BoK and RSK after the WDP? becasue you would be at Zero chi
Well it assumes you have enough beforehand obviously
Yeah, was jsut making sure that I wasn’t doing any mistake
Assuming you go into that with 5 chi, you would need to generate 1 chi between the 2nd RSK and the 3rd RSK.
Unless you’re assuming that you’re using ascension, then going in with 6 chi, it works exactly as written.
Yeah you’re right, I’ll add Expel Harm in there
Yup, that’s what I was saying I might have not explained myself correctly
I hope they read that thought I doubt because this is a bit of a mess….
Does this change us using the Coordinated Offensive Conduit at all? If the clones aren’t focused right off they could help build stacks faster at the beginning of pulls, right? Or is it best to just delay focusing until after the first TP/BoK/RSK get cast?
It doesn’t change how or when you use CO. If you need SEF to tag things then you let them tag things before focusing them. However, on the PTR they don’t do anything if you don’t focus them, so if that doesn’t get fixed then it doesn’t matter.
So just to clarify, say i am running up to a 4 pack in a dungeon with 1 MotC stack. Do i RSK to get a 2nd and then start spamming SCK and TP to get Chi?
If you are using SEF sure. If you aren’t using SEF and don’t need RSK to trigger WDP then you build with BoK and TP
thanks, much appreciated help! ive mained WW since Legion so nice to see them finally doing good again
I need help. My opener on a boss is this. I tiger palm, expel harm, and tiger strike to get full chi. I then pop Weapons, Xuen, and then my spirits. After this I spend chi in FoF first. Am I doing it wrong? I cancel my channel immediately with tiger palm, or Blackout, or Rising Sun. If I am under 50% haste do I just let the FoF continue for full duration?
You’re forgetting to use RSK before FoF in this situation. Look at the Kyrian guide page for information.
Ok so after I RSK, I cast FoF for the full duration if I am under 50% haste? What abilities allow me to have above 50% haste?
Haste is the monks worst stat so how does it break 50%?
No, you cast it if you’re higher than 50%. You can get above 50% with 2 of the 3 of Bloodlust, Invokers Delight, or Power Infusion
Ok I understand now. So for Mythic+… I should be letting FoF channel for the full cast from pack to pack? Only on boss fights should I clip the 1st FoF due to having above 50% haste?
Can confirm FoF canceled once hitting any ability after…. new patch
Hey gang Im currently playing as Night Fae because it was supposedly good for both raiding and mythic plus, with the changes that came with the patch do I need to reroll to Kryian since it is now listed as the best for both activities? I dont mind switching if its the best way to go, just wondering if its worth the supposed headache of swapping covenants?
It was the best before.
Oh lord… last place now.
gg blizz.
We must be looking at very different things
New bug found from Chinese players today, the ability Spinning Crane Kick doesn’t scale with Mastery at all. Comfirmed by more than 10 ww players.
We’ll give it a look.
