We got another round of chances today. I have updated the Feedback post on the forums. There have been a few since the last post, but none that were very meaningful:
- Fists of Fury requires 1H weapons still
- Chi Burst had its maximum Chi capped at 2.
Today’s build added in:
- Windwalker Monk Effect #1 Apply Aura: Modifies Damage/Healing Done Value:
-20-23% - Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger Summons an effigy of Xuen, the White Tiger for 20 sec. Xuen attacks your primary target, and strikes 3 enemies within 10 yards every 1 sec with Tiger Lightning for (
28%23% of Attack power) Nature damage. - Rushing Jade Wind Summons a whirling tornado around you, causing [(1) * (
9.1728%20% of Attack power)] damage every 0.8 sec to all enemies within 8 yards. - Chi Burst Hurls a torrent of Chi energy up to 40 yds forward, dealing (
65.52%46% of Attack power) Nature damage to all enemies, and (67.5675% of Attack power) healing to the Monk and all allies in its path.
What this means
There’s not much to be said about these changes as they’re pretty obvious why they were changed. Obviously Windwalker’s overall damage was a little too high for where Blizzard would like, so our damage aura was decreased. Many other specs had their auras increased or decreased, so its impossible to say how it affects Windwalkers compared to other specs. This change is really not much to worry about as its mostly in the background.
As I’ve said before, Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger was doing too much damage, so its been nerfed. The real difference comes in the fact that Rushing Jade Wind was, pretty significantly, buffed. Previously, Rushing Jade Wind was a damage loss when you’d use it below 3 targets, due to using more resources than its worth. With this change, Rushing Jade Wind becomes a damage gain at 2 targets. This also means that we’d use Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger at 1 target, Rushing Jade Wind at 3 or more targets, and with 2 targets it depends on whether you need the burst or the sustain. This gives Rushing Jade Wind a place and a way to use it, which is exactly what it needed, so to that end, Good Job Blizzard.
It also looks like the cap of 5 on SCK stacks is around to stay, so the fact that this Rushing Jade Wind moves up to needing 19 stacks before you’d drop Rushing Jade Wind in favor of more SCK is irrelevant.
Finally, although Chi Burst was certainly doing too much damage, making it the default choice for all situations, nerfing the damage component was not enough to fix it. As was pointed out by Kuyama in Discord, because of how strong BoK is, Chi Burst can do no damage in single target, and the 1 Chi it provides would still be better than Chi Wave. This is a combination of the problem that BoK does too much damage, and Chi Burst providing Chi in single target is too strong. A solution to this is, still, to remove the Chi component to Chi Burst in single target, making it require hitting at least 2 targets before it provides Chi.
In my opinion, while these changes do help some of the problems, such as Rushing Jade Wind not really having a place, they do not fix them. BoK still does too much damage, Chi Burst providing chi in single target makes it too strong, Rushing Jade Wind is not a very fun playstyle, and a 5 cap on SCK all but negates the entire mechanic and hinders Windwalker’s AOE abilties.

you mention some of our attacks still doing too much damage, but what about all the healing we lost, do you think we need that damage to keep us viable in solo form so we dont die to everything?
I don’t think those two things are really connected at all.
What I think pantherfan69 means is that if you kill an add in a 15 second window, rather than a 20, you negate any abilities they would of done in those 5 seconds (which can be roughly valued at healing that damage had they casted them).
What he said. they aren’t linked
It’s certainly going to be an interesting expansion, can’t wait to actually be able to use Xuen again effectively.
M+ should also be pretty nice with the RJW changes.
Rip hit combo 2018
Capping spinning crane kick at 5 targets is so dumb.
yes it makes no sense to cap it at 5, it means no one will even have it on their hotbar. For something that needs so much work to pull off with the flawed tab targeting currently in game, it was already a pain but at least it had a payoff if you had high stacks
how do ww’s manage elite bosses now. unless I severely oveargear it, I use all 3 of my survival tools for some of argus’s elites (chi wave, healing elixir, and transcendence transfer). Now I’ll just have chi wave.
Also, idk if the tooltips I’ve read are correct, but nothing seems to restrict rushing jade winds unique target application down to 2 anymore.
side note: removal of dave slows down our questing. as it stands I use him to group large sets together for a FoF > RsK > WdP, and to keep mobs off of items while picking them up. ignores so many trivial annoyances.
You’re not really supposed to be able to easily solo elite mobs, you’re supposed to struggle or need help.
Tell that to a large portion of dps atm. Especially with how focused the game is on questing and mini bosses. This puts us in the minority of those unable to handle them. One of 2 maybe 3 that struggle. Well we might be able to in war mode with the instacast Vivify talent, unless it heals as little as our current iteration. Where we take more dmg in that gcd than it can heal lol.
We’ll see when I get some practice time on it. It’d be nice to have blackout kicks heal back at least. Losing 2/3 of our sustain and a good portion of AoE without any trade offs kinda sucks. But others have lost a fair bit too. Azerite traits will determine a lot.
Either way, not being able to handle big major bosses I’d expect, I’m not a warlock. But some of the medium sized ones would be nice.
correct me if i’m wrong, you’re numbers are far better than mine. but is our personal healing being cut down to nearly 1/5 not counting touch of karma?
been doing some dummy tests (only ilvl 919 though), and roughly 20% of my heals were coming from chi wave. the rest was either healing elixir or something artifact/nether light crucible related.
I don’t disagree with you on needing it nerfed, those numbers were fairly high if executed properly. do you really think it needed to be this extreme? they could’ve at least made the 25% heal on transcendence transfer baseline, coupled with the 45 second cd to make it more of a non-spammy choice. and with chi burst being nearly required, it’s a further nerf due to it’s heal being substantially less than chi wave (at least on live)
guess I’m just really frustrated that the nerf seems so to be a complete gut. Rather than a calculated reduction to bring it in line with other melee dps. I just don’t get it
Now that we are (probably) less than a week from pre-patch, is there any chance we could get a summary of the spec changes? Just a straight list of what was lost and, big-picture what was tinkered with? Thanks for years of being awesome.
Yes, before the prepatch comes out
